Perhaps the gods laugh at our self- destructive gaffe of acting like gods.
HAIKU POEM ROSALIENE BACCHUS
|
we fool ourselves
don't we
in the name of god
sanctimoniously
we walk
aloof and aloft
nose tilted toffee nose
greater and better
than the others
in the name of god
listen to the music the raaga
the melody of eternity
immortal
the archetypal ultimate coexistence
of time and space and being
in the amorphousness of energy pervading the world
that some believe is here for personal use
not understanding it is here
not for us but we are here for it
and
don't we not forget as the neocons and the coalition
are
now forgetting...
that god does not listen to the rich only
and cannot be bribed
by eloquence
and the veneer of affluence
which is not affordable to those without eloquence
who do not possess the means to bribe man
or god whom he fears
why invoke the name of god falsely
to do the dirty work
in the name of god!

Gary, a Guyanese-
American living in
New York, is the
Editor and Publisher
of the Guyana Journal.
Trained in the
natural sciences, he
ventured into the
world of poetry in the
mid-1990s.
His poems in if only
the gods were awake
were written over
several years. They
speak to nostalgic
feelings, emotions
and love, nature and
society, war and
peace, and
philosophy.
I write poetry because something or someone out there
excites my thought processes. My poetry relates to
people, matters, and things that I care deeply about.
Poetry for me provides a very private space that allows
freedom of imagination - to look out into the distance
and marvel, and, contrariwise, to look for openings to
the heart from a distance.
GARY GIRDHARI: Excerpt from the Introduction to his poetry
collection, if only the gods were awake, May 2011
