HAIKU POETRY
The Japanese
haiku poetic form
of 5-7-5
on -
often equated
with the English
syllable -
juxtaposes two
images or ideas,
usually
separated with a
cutting word.

For me, the
haiku poem is a
morsel to chew
on and digest
during the day
or days ahead.
We live in challenging times. Our future is uncertain. For many of us, each day is
filled with adversity and struggle. Using the compact Haiku verse, I call attention
to our struggle and to the situations that bind us.
THE POOR OF THIS WORLD
Their heads hang with shame
before the rich who fleece them.
The poor of this world.

JUNE 2012

HUMAN BONDAGE
Toil in dead-end jobs;
Empty stares in long food lines.
Of human bondage.

MAY 2012

NO COMPASSION
For sex, they enslave.
Kill children in greedy wars.
Men with calloused souls.

APRIL 2012

DISCONNECTED
Across the ether
we chatter on our cell phones,
feigning connection.

MARCH 2012

A PLACE IN THE SUN
Battered, abandoned,
love denied; seeking only
a place in the sun.

FEBRUARY 2012

TRAPPED
An eaglet shot down
talons snared in sludge, wings crushed.
Trapped in student debt.

JANUARY 2012
DECENCY RESTORED
Greater share of harvest
Dark fear & war snuffed out.
Decency shines bright.

DECEMBER 2012

ACTING LIKE GODS
Perhaps the gods laugh
at our self-destructive gaffe
of acting like gods.

NOVEMBER 2012

DEATH THROES OF AUTUMN
Leaves turned fiery red
in the death throes of autumn.
A planet ablaze.

OCTOBER 2012

SCRAPPED WORKERS
Left behind as waste
living on morsels debased.
When I'm scrapped, who cares?

SEPTEMBER 2012

OBLIVIOUS
Up and down men race
scuttling earth to the master's
house on the hilltop.

AUGUST 2012

NO SATISFACTION
Men craving for more:
more stuff more power more junk.
No satisfaction.
