Naked we are born. What will be our legacy when we are long gone?
HAIKU POEM ROSALIENE BACCHUS
|
Never before have I seen this nation
stripped so naked from its creation.
Mama can Obama release us from Osama
or have we hid behind the bushes so long,
we'll never be calmer?
Hillary help me see a higher ground;
songs in the key of life that turn a frown.
For if the youth is our future then Oprah's
closer than folks give her credit for.
Spend the arms money on education honey;
then the jokes on America won't be so funny.
'Cause not one teen can name films of Fred Astaire
or write a proper letter to their mayor.
Let them play Mortal Kombat - their sensitivity faded
then send more troops to decimate the decimated.
On Judgment Day, will we all be naked?
Will we still lust even before the Sacred?
A world so savvy, they remixed the canonization:
faith's a hard sale to the scholars of this nation.
Who will laugh last, The Gnostics or Opus Dei?
Will the Rastafarians smoke their sins away?
Other cultures eat their food and talk their talk.
My people stripped naked, oblivious of fault.
Our greatest ancestors are the Bible's antagonists.
It is why our faith is tainted by our fists.
We're secular sacred until hatred's stripped naked.

Ten years after the
U.S. began its war
against the "Axis of
Evil", the U.S. finally
killed the al-Qaida
leader, Osama bin
Laden, in August
2011. This war has so
far cost the USA $1.3
trillion. Independent
experts project a cost
of $4 trillion through
2017.
In addition to this
debt that we
bequeath to future
generations, 2.3
million families (the
number of Americans
who have served in
Iraq and Afghanistan
since 2001) have
been directly affected
by this war.
The following figures
reveal the legacy of
this war:
- 6,261 Americans
killed in action;
- 46,434 Americans
wounded in action;
- 600,000 Veterans
qualified to receive
disability
compensation;
- $600-$900 billion
estimated for
future medical and
disability costs.
