The country profile of the United States, prepared by the US Central Intelligence
Agency, is available at the following link:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html.

In 2009, US total imports ($1.9 trillion) and exports ($1.5 trillion) maintained their slow
recovery following contraction in world trade in 2008.

According to the
US trade statistics as at May 2010, total imports and exports of
goods and services showed increases of
29.1 percent and 21.0 percent, respectively,
when compared with
May 2009.

While total imports and exports for the period
January to May 2010 have grown over
the same period last year, volumes have not yet returned to levels achieved in 2008.

The charts below show monthly imports and exports of goods and services for the
period 2006 to 2010 (
May).
